DALE SWOBODA WIRES 95 PRO LIMITED FEATURE

Hermon’s Dale Swoboda showed how easy it is to bounce back from adversity when he won the Pro-Limited feature event at Speedway 95 Sunday afternoon. Swoboda had gone to Unity Raceway on Friday night to run in their opening night event, and ended up on the wrecker hook after a late race collision wiped out his front suspension. You’d never have known it Sunday afternoon at Speedway 95 as he dominated the Pro Limited feature event by leading all 25 laps and taking home the win. Second place went to a tenacious John Phippen Jr. of Bar Harbor who proved that the inside groove isn’t always the slowest way around the 1/3 mile oval. Phippen started fourth, and worked his way past third running Dwayne Seekins of Stockton Springs, but a caution flag restart on lap 17 put Seekins in position to regain the third spot. Phippen went to work and passed Seekins on the inside again, then just for good measure, took on second place Shane Smith of Winterport, and passed him by again using the inside groove to take the second spot away from him on the last lap.  Smith finished in third, with Seekins fourth and Liberty’s Josh St. Clair finishing fifth.

The Allenfarm Fence Co. Sport-Four Division raced in a special qualifying event for the 4 cylinder Nationals to be held at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough on August 2nd. Gary Sagar of Kraze Korlacki Speed Equipment Inc. of Seekonk, Mass. was on hand to present the winner with the invitation to the August event, a trophy for the win and a $100 gift certificate to the speed shop. David Green of Hampden turned out to be the winner of the event as his third place finish on the track turned into a win at the tech shack, when the top two finishers, Kyle Gallant of Veazie and Phil Richardson of Carmel, were disqualified for infractions of the division’s weight rule. Second place went to pole sitter Brent Fletcher of Old Town. Following the further disqualification of Rick Grant of LaGrange, also due to a violation of the weight rule, Roy Hathorn of Brownville was awarded the third place trophy, followed by Tim Robinson of Clinton in fourth and Steve Heath of Milo in fifth. Sagar explained to the crowd that the August event was being put on to benefit the search for a cure for breast cancer, and that fans could find out more information on the race itself and the race for the cure for breast cancer at www.krazespeedequipment.com.

The Coca-Cola 35 lap Strictly Street Series race was won by Bradley Norris of Ellsworth, as he held a hard charging Jordan Pearson of Glenburn at bay for most of the event. Pearson, making his first appearance of the season in a borrowed car, made a couple of runs at Norris during the latter stages of the race, but Norris was able to hold him off, despite a loose handling race car. Pearson finished second with pole sitter Travis Poulin of Holden finishing third. Fourth and fifth spots went to Bangor’s Shawn Hamel II and Shawn Hamel. The extended length event went the entire distance without any caution periods slowing the pace.

The CAM II Racing Fuel Super Street 50 lap feature event win went to Liberty’s Josh St. Clair, who took the lead from Steve Moulton of Holden on a lap 20 restart caused by pole sitter Kris Watson’s solo spin in turn four. Watson later fell from competition in the race due to mechanical issues with his car. 64 year old Doug Sinclair of Hermon finished the event in the second spot after a tight battle with Moulton for the second spot. Moulton evidently took exception to Sinclair’s driving methods during the last lap battle for position, and was disqualified from the event for unsportsmanlike conduct on the track during the cool down lap and the post-race interviews in front of the grandstand. Third went to Mike Overlock of Franklin, with Lindsay Young of Winterport fourth and Watson finishing in fifth.

Max Zecham of Preston Connecticut picked up his second win of the season at Speedway 95 in the NELCAR legends car touring series as he passed early leader and former winner Charlie Buxton of Windham for the lead on lap 12. Buxton finished in second, with Bobby Timmons of Windham making a last lap pass of Durham’s Terry Kirk to take the third spot. Kirk finished fourth with Bob Weymouth of Topsham  fifth.
